Christian Service

Christian Service Experience Guidelines

Notre Dame High School for Girls considers Christian service an essential element in the formation of young people. Through service, teenagers develop compassion and empathy as well as grow in the knowledge of systematic changes necessary to eliminate pain, need, and neglect in our local and global communities. It is hoped that service experiences will instill in young people the desire to serve and work for solutions to unjust situations throughout their adult lives.

All NDHS students complete at least 80 hours of volunteer Christian service during their high school years as a requirement for graduation. By May 1st each year, students must submit a reflection paper on the life lessons learned through service.  Upon completion of service hours and reflection paper, students receive a “P” (passing) grade for the annual Christian Service Experience.  To record and report completed service hours students need to complete the Christian Service Hours Log and the Reflections on Christian Service Experience report that is available on the school web site, their religion teacher or Campus Minister.  Service hours may be completed between June 1st and the beginning of fourth quarter each year.  Types of service include:

School related activities:  This category includes opportunities that directly impact the student and community of NDHS.  Such activities might include teacher supervised peer tutoring, teacher/office aides (non-credit) or a volunteer at any of the events sponsored by Notre Dame or Saint Ferdinand Parish and School.

Community related activities: This category includes service directly to the surrounding community to be approved by the campus minister.
